Choosing the right plane is much like choosing the right car. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The most important consideration is the length of the trip:

  1. Twin Prop. For shorter trips (less than 600 miles) a twin prop is ideal. It is the most cost effective option, and for short trips will be nearly as quick as a jet.
  2. Turboprop. A step-up from the twin prop. Jet-like luxury and comfort at a slightly slower and lower cost.
  3. Small Jet. For medium trips (800 miles or so) a small jet is a good option. Because of its faster speed it will keep the trip to a reasonable timeframe. They can be quite expensive, however.
  4. Large Jet. For long trips (cross country or even trans-continental) a large jet may be your only option. With the fastest speeds, longest range, and largest cabins, a large jet can make even long trips comfortable. All of this comes at a higher price, of course.
